On The Journal: At Home With Laura & Billie
From an intimate wedding on the island of Sumba to welcoming baby Billie less than a year later, it’s been a pretty special 12 months for Laura and Liam.
After 15 years together, the couple stepped into two of life’s biggest chapters almost back-to-back, marriage and parenthood. Now, life looks a little different: slower mornings with Billie, getting out for walks together, finding new rhythms at home, and rediscovering familiar routines through the lens of becoming parents.
We caught up with Laura to chat about their journey into parenthood, how pregnancy and postpartum have shaped her work with Wild Pilates, the little moments she’s loving most, and the places she can’t wait to show Billie.

We were all enamoured following along your beautiful wedding journey on Instagram, it’s been a big year for you! Can you share more about what the past 12 months have been like?
The last 12 months have been huge for us. We got married in May 2025 on the island of Sumba in Indonesia. It was just Liam and I, essentially combining our wedding, honeymoon and a bucket-list travel destination all in one.
We’ve been together for 15 years, so we wanted an intimate ceremony that really felt like “us” to begin this next chapter together.
We stayed in Indonesia for another two months, travelling between a few different islands while filming for Wild Pilates and making the most of what we thought could potentially be our last big trip with just the two of us, which it turned out to be!

We knew we were hoping to get pregnant soon after our wedding, so we started preparing for TTC around six months beforehand, taking vitamins, eating well, reducing stress and generally trying to look after ourselves.
We found out we were pregnant in August, and our baby was actually due the day before our first wedding anniversary. Billie had other plans though and arrived a few weeks early, at the end of April.
Has your pregnancy and journey into parenthood inspired your work?
I would say it has been the most impactful inspiration for me yet.
I help women, and men, do Pilates at home, making it more accessible for everyone, and mums have always been a huge part of the Wild Pilates community.
Pilates is such an amazing and safe form of exercise during pregnancy and postpartum, and sometimes leaving the house to get to a class is just too hard. Being able to fit in 10–20 minutes of Pilates at home can be perfect.
I feel so lucky to have now experienced pregnancy in my own body and, more recently, postpartum. While I was pregnant, I filmed Wild Prenatal, a 40-week pregnancy-safe Pilates programme designed to grow with you week by week, because I know now just how different you can feel from one week to the next.

I’m currently working on our new postnatal programme, which will be out soon. Both programmes focus on full-body strength and mobility, with a big focus on the deep core and pelvic floor.
Becoming a mum has been the biggest life change, so I’m really excited to be able to use my own experience to support other mums as they go through it too.
What are your most-loved routines or moments with Billie so far?
We love our mornings with her, especially when she has just woken up and is all smiley and happy.
Getting outside for a morning walk together has also become one of our favourite routines. We rug her up in her pram, get some fresh air and go for a walk together. We’ve just moved her from her Edwards & Co Carry Cot into the main pram seat, which feels like another little milestone!
How are you feeling postpartum? Is it how you expected, and how are you staying connected with your sense of self during this phase of life?
I’m feeling pretty good and really positive.
I think both extremes are more intense than I expected. I’m obsessed with her more than I thought was possible, but at the same time, motherhood can be more relentless and all-consuming than I expected too.
I’m focusing on getting out for a walk and a coffee most days, which is something I’ve always loved doing. Getting back into Pilates has also been amazing and has really helped me feel like myself again.

Are there any rituals or traditions from your childhood that you’d love to carry through to parenthood?
I remember always being in nature as a child, being outside, at the beach and going for bushwalks.
That’s definitely something I’m really looking forward to sharing with Billie and making part of her childhood too.
Which place in the world are you most excited to share with Billie?
Ooh, this is a good one!
We would LOVE to take Billie back to Sanubari in Sumba, where we got married. It would be so special to return there with her.
I’d also love to explore Hawke’s Bay with her, which is where I grew up, and show her some of the places that were part of my own childhood.
Any words of wisdom for new parents, or one thing you wish you knew before becoming a mum?
I’ve found the phrase, “They aren’t giving you a hard time, they are having a hard time,” really helpful for staying positive during the harder moments.
Also, just remembering that everything is a short phase. Knowing that has helped me slow down and enjoy every stage with Billie as it comes.
