Summer Lovin'
All PostsOur first - now two year old boy - was born in the middle of winter so it’s been a welcome change to have a summer baby this time round.
Admittedly, it took me a while to get used to a newborn in nothing but a singlet; no booties or woollen hat!
Because our little girl was born on the last day of October, she’s had a busy start to life as we muddled through the newborn haze alongside Christmas, end of year events and New Year celebrations. My toddler loved having Dad on call 24/7 for two weeks, and we made the most of the Christmas break with weekends away up north (we’re based in Auckland so “up north” for us is Northland and the Bay of Islands).

The Oscar Mx collection has made our life a whole lot easier this summer.
We had the Mx stroller set up in our lounge with Ruby sleeping and hanging out in the carry cot for the first few weeks of her life. During the day, this is where you’d be guaranteed to find her (or snuggled in my arms!)
If you’re already a parent, you’ll know the change your house undergoes when a baby arrives. Suddenly your home is overrun with baby ‘stuff’. The Oscar Mx is one item you’ll be proud to have guests tripping over when they arrive!
I love the sleek design of the stroller frame and people are always commenting on how comfy Ruby looks in the carry cot.
We’ve used the carry cot on several occasions to sleep Ruby overnight when staying away from home. Our toddler is in a big boy’s bed now and we’ve gotten quite used to not packing a portacot every time we go away.

Here’s the thing, you’re ALREADY taking the capsule and stroller frame on your trip away - packing the carry cot actually saves space. You can use it for all overnight sleeps, day naps at home and when out and about, and I use it to pack all the baby’s stuff neatly.
I haven’t got out for walks as much as I’d have liked. I wanted to take a very slow approach to this precious postpartum time…and I have seriously taken my own advice. In fact, Ruby is nearly 12 weeks old and I’m only just starting to venture out each day! She’s a wonderful little sleeper (don’t shoot me…we did our time with our first who didn’t sleep for the first 18 months!) and I think this has made me happier to stay at home and make sure she gets decent naps in her bed.
When I’m home with both kids, I pop Ruby in the front pack and Olly in the stroller. I used a front pack or stretchy wrap exclusively with Olly as he was just one of those “koala” kids, so I love the time I get with Ruby on my chest.
I’ve loved the newborn bubble this time around and I wish time would slow down! But I’m also looking forward to the scrummy chubby bub she’s about to become and being able to utilise the sleeping bag, cup holder and other Mx accessories.
